    Primeras impresiones sobre el Origami.

you hadn't heard, Origami Experience is the sexy new program launcher that Microsoft is prepping for Vista-based UMPCs and Tablets, which along with providing a fresh new way to get at your apps lets you browse and play your media in an all-inclusive environment. We've finally gotten our first look at the software (more shots after the break), thanks to a post full of screenies over at the Origami Team Blog. The Tablet nuts over at jkOnTheRun got to view it live and found Experience to be speedy, intuitive and helpful, with convenient menus, easy customization and all-important finger-friendly operation. Looks like there isn't just one purtiful touch-based portable OS game in town.

Microsoft Service Desk is Microsofts first helpdesk application, fully based on ITIL principles. It will host it's one database that can be 'fed' with information from SMS and MOM. I came across some info that the SD product team is concidering to make it possible to use SMS 2003 SPx in combination with SD. Here is some info on the release schedule. SD is planned to go RTM at the end of this year, so for some techies this will be 'the most wonderfull time of the year'!

  • Beta 1: December 2006 (TAP is running)
  • Beta 2: end of April 2007
  • Release candidate: beginning of July 2007
  • RTM: December 2007

    1. Service Packs.  We have no existing plans to develop service packs for the 32-bit version.

    2. Automatic Anti-spam updates from Windows Updates.  Only a licensed 64-bit version will be able to get automatic anti-spam updates from Microsoft Update.

    3. Storage groups and databases.  You can have a maximum of 5 databases per server in as many as 5 storage groups on the 32-bit version.

No. The Hypervisor is simply, hardware partitioning. Windows Virtualisation will use the Hypervisor to provide very fast, efficient, and secure access to the hardware.

In the diagram below you can see that the Windows Hypervisor sits between the hardware and the operating system. It is a very small and efficient piece of code that uses Intel-VT or AMD-V to provide secure hardware partitioning - It does not contain any drivers, services, or applications.

Paper sobre el directorio activo en 64 bits.

This white paper compares the performance of the 64-bit Windows Server 2003 operating system and the 32-bit Windows Server 2003 operating system with Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Active Directory operations. It also investigates workloads for which the 64-bit version of the operating system outperforms the 32-bit version.

Running IIS 32-bit Applications on IIS 64-bit

Windows Server 2003TM, Service Pack 1 enables IIS 6.0 to run 32-bit Web applications on 64-bit Windows using the Windows-32-on-Windows-64 (WOW64) compatibility layer. IIS 6.0 using WOW64 is intended to run 32-bit personal productivity applications needed by software developers and administrators, including 32-bit Internet Information Services (IIS) Web applications.

On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit processes cannot load 64-bit DLLs, and 64-bit processes cannot load 32-bit DLLs. If you plan to run 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows, you must configure IIS to create 32-bit worker processes. Once you have configured IIS to create 32-bit worker processes, you can run the following types of IIS applications on 64-bit Windows:

    • Internet Server API (ISAPI) extensions
    • ISAPI filters
    • Active Server Page (ASP) applications (specifically, scripts calling COM objects where the COM object can be 32-bit or 64-bit)
    • ASP.NET applications

Como habilitar SSL en un cluster SQL 2005.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 can use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt data that is transmitted across a network between an instance of SQL Server and a client application. The SSL encryption is performed within the protocol layer and is available to all SQL Server clients except DB Library and MDAC 2.53 clients.

    Hackers Selling Vista Zero-Day Exploit

Researchers at Trend Micro infiltrate an underground exploit marketplace and find a Windows Vista zero-day attack for sale for $50,000.

The Windows Vista exploit—which has not been independently verified—was just one of many zero-days available for sale at an auction-style marketplace infiltrated by the Tokyo-based anti-virus vendor.

In an interview with eWEEK, Trend Micro's chief technology officer, Raimund Genes, said prices for exploits for unpatched code execution flaws are in the $20,000 to $30,000 range, depending on the popularity of the software and the reliability of the attack code.

    Microsoft PIX

For those interested in game development technology, it’s been a great week of product releases! Monday we saw the 1.0 release of XNA Game Studio Express. Wednesday brought the release of the December 2006 version of the DirectX SDK, which includes the product I work on, PIX for Windows. Friday, Visual Studio 2005 SP1 was released. Congratulations to everyone involved with these products!

I thought I'd write a short introductory article on using PIX for Windows. PIX can be used in many different ways to analyze, debug, optimize, and test programs that use Direct3D, and it has a lot of features -- so it might be a bit intimidating at first. The basic usage pattern is pretty straightforward, though, so if you haven't ever used PIX before, maybe this walkthrough will encourage you to give it a try. Whether you write programs using native Direct3D, managed DirectX, or XNA, PIX can show you a lot of useful information about what your program is doing and how you can make it work better.
